A sparkling waterway for this ultramodern city
Jacobs worked with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to deliver a 16-mile waterway, connecting Dubai Creek –adjacent to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a Ramsar designated wetland of international importance – with the Arabian Gulf. As a watermark signature, the canal adds new vibrancy to Dubai’s ultramodern cityscape as a centerpiece for a host of new residential developments.
The RTA awarded Jacobs their Green Economy Award for Environment and Water Project of the Year. The award acknowledged the project’s rigorous environmental assessment and design standards which considered the marine interaction with the coastal zone, Dubai Creek, and wetland areas which hold significant social, cultural-heritage and environment value. RTA also recognized Jacobs’ outstanding safety performance with a Best Safety Consultant Award.
It’s a crowning achievement for a project we’ve helped develop since 2004, providing a variety of services to bring this component of Dubai’s masterplan to life.
